Ginsu Knife Set With Block - The Knife Set As Seen On TV
The company that currently makes Ginsu knives first started out in 1902 as the Douglas company. They made
various automotive spare parts and gradually moved into kitchen cutlery and other household products from 1920s
onwards. They are now known as Douglas Quikut which is a division of the Scott Fetzer Company (Scott Fetzer is
owned by Berkshire Hathaway). Ginsu Knife sets first made a name for themselves in the mid 1970's as they were
heavily marketed on TV using infomercials. In fact, many claim that they were the first products to use this type
of marketing and advertising as a selling tool. The catch phrase or sound byte that was coined during this period
and still stands as a slogan for Ginsu knife sets is "Sharpest Knives on the Market". I'm sure other reputable
knife makers, like Henckels and Wusthoff for example, might disagree but this slogan seems to have stuck.
Ginsu knife sets are popular cutlery that seems
to be quite cheaper than sets made by the likes of J.A. Henckels, Wusthoff and Calphalon. For instance, you can get
a 14 piece Ginsu set for under $50. This includes pretty much all you will need to work in the kitchen. Some of
these sets even have steak knives that can used for meals for the family or dinner parties.

More On Ginsu Knife Sets
Perhaps the most distinctive looking Ginsu cutlery set is the Ginsu Chikara Stainless Steel Knife Set with
Block. You can get a 12 piece and 8 piece set with distinctive looking wood block for storage and easy access to
the knives.
The 12 piece includes 4 steak knives for everyday use and then most of the kitchen cutler you will need. This
includes a chef's knife and a santoku. There is a serrated edge utility knife that can be used for all sorts of
cutting including as a bread knife. You also get kitchen shears and a sharpening steel.
The 8 piece set is all the kitchen cutlery minus the steak knives so if you already have cutlery for eating then
this is a better bet.
The wooden block looks slightly different to the standard looking block because the knives are stored vertically
rather than at an angle. There is good reason for storing the knives at an angle. It makes it easier to grasp them
and pull them from the block. However the vertical storage block probably takes up less room and may not be a
probably for many people. Besides, it look very stylish and will look the part in any kitchen.
It is nicely finished with the Ginsu logo on the front and is made of bamboo. The block staggers the knives such
that the bigger knives are highest and the steak knives are lowest.
Most Ginsu knives, especially the Chikara series are made in Japan, using Stainless steel. They a stain
resistant and have long lasting edge sharpness based on the manufacturing process. The handles have a
traditional Japanese look and are heat and water resistant.
