Calphalon Knife Set
Calphalon are more readily known for their range of cookware, including pots and pans that are stick proof. The
company has developed it's own non stick coating process (known as Infused anodization) that is applied to the
surface of the various pots and pans that it makes. This makes everyday cooking easier, especially the cleaning up
which nobody is particularly keen of. The company moved into making cutlery, in particular knives, as their
reputation for kitchen ware grew. There are now a variety of Calphalon knife sets that can come with a storage block
or without. They have fast developed a reputation for producing quality knife sets at a middle to top end price
range.

More On Calphalon Knife Sets
Calphalon started out in 1963 in Perrysburg, Ohio. It was known as the Commercial Aluminum Cookware Company
(only becoming known as the Calphalon corporation in 1997). Initially the company made pans for cooking mainly for
professional use. This evolved over the years to the stage where most of the items produced are for the home
gourmet or home chef.
In 1994, the company spread it's wings and moved into making utensils and cutlery, including knife sets.
Calphalon make all sorts of knives and other tools for working in the kitchen. You can purchase these items
individually or as part of a set. In the case of knife
sets, you can purchase them as is or with a cutlery block to store them.
Some of the knives that Calphalon currently makes include speciality items such as the Japanese inspired Nakiri,
which is a knife primarily for use with vegetables. In keeping with the Japanese theme, it is a good knife to use
to prepare vegetables for sushi style meals. The Nakiri is part of the Katana series of knife sets made by
Calphalon. The Katana series includes various other Japanese inspired cutlery such as the Sankuto knife that is
a cross between a chefs knife and a cleaver.
The knife is great for slicing, dicing and mincing so can perform most tasks in the kitchen. It can also work on
a variety of materials from vegetables, meat and fish. The indentations on the edge of the blade (known as kullens)
make it easier to mince items or even fast slice as the material falls away faster than with a normal knife.
Calphalon also do traditional knife sets from a set of steak knives to a full blown cutlery set. The cutlery set
is basically all the knives you will need to work in the kitchen and knives that the family will need to eat
food.
These sets can get up to 21 pieces and are usually completed with a cutlery block that can store all the
utensils. The block has room for every item of cutlery and generally has a couple more slots should you want to
expand your set.
Expect to find a paring knife, tomato bagel knife, boning knife, santoku, utility knife, large fork, bread and
chef's knives, kitchen shears or scissors and steak knives. As already noted, if you get a set like this all your
knife needs are taken care of.
